Electronics, built by the people who'll use it.
Ohm Depot is SAIT's Electronics Engineering Technology club: a place to design electronics, elaborate, and put together functional projects in a group setting.
Hands-on, project-first, open to any program.
Our Projects
We plan on scheduling dedicated lab times, enhancing soldering and PCB design skills, and finding satisfaction in all of the projects we put together.
PCB & firmware projects
Team builds that go from schematic to a board in your hand — documented so the next member can pick them up.
Networking and Team-Building
We showcase our creativity, design capabilities, and business skills through planned networking events and demonstrations.
Mentorship
A place for people to collaborate, learn, and better understand the projects at hand. We intend to go over any misunderstood concepts or ideas in electronics.
What the club has been building.
Photos from builds, events, and workshops go here as they happen — slots below are ready for them.
Join Ohm Depot
Open to any SAIT student — no electronics background required. Fill in your details and we'll follow up with next steps.
Lab & equipment access. Soldering stations, meters, and shared tools during build nights.
A project to work on. Join an in-progress build or pitch your own to the group.
Something to show for it. Documented projects and demo days you can put on a resume.
No experience required. First-years and non-ENT programs welcome — we'll get you up to speed.
You're on the list
Thanks, friend — we've got your application. Watch your SAIT email for next steps.
Specs & reference
Formal standards and templates for Ohm Depot projects. Start from these, don't reinvent them per-project.
PCB design standards
Default constraints for club boards sent to a standard 2-layer fab run. Tighten these per-project if the fab house supports it.
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Layer stack | 2-layer | 4-layer for high-speed or dense boards |
| Min trace width | 6 mil | 10 mil for power > 1A |
| Min clearance | 6 mil | 8 mil for mains-adjacent traces |
| Min via drill | 0.3 mm | 0.2 mm only if fab confirms yield |
| Copper weight | 1 oz | 2 oz for motor drivers |
| Board thickness | 1.6 mm | Standard unless enclosure dictates otherwise |
| Silkscreen | Ref des + polarity marks | Required on every part with orientation |
| Item | Convention |

| Project folder | projectname_rev-a/ |
| Gerber export | projectname_rev-a_gerbers.zip |
| BOM | projectname_rev-a_bom.csv |
